Garage clearance
We'll empty and sort the contents of your garage, creating storage space, safely disposing of or recycling waste, and reselling items in our stores.
If your garage is full of household furniture and items you no longer use, it could be time to try our friendly and professional garage clearance service a try. Our team will help clear waste, reduce clutter that's built up over the years and help you manage space in your garage. Any preloved items can be renovated and resold in our stores, helping Garden House Hospice Care continue providing specialist care in North Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. By recycling as much as possible, we're reducing the amount which might otherwise have ended up in landfill, promoting sustainability and contributing to waste reduction.
We clear garages in the Hospice's catchment area, which includes Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Royston, Biggleswade and all the villages in between. If you live outside this area, please still get in touch and we'll be happy to come to an agreement with you.
How it works
1. Fill out our collection form, detailing the information we need about your garage and the items you wish to donate. You will also select a preferred date and time for clearance.
2. We will review your answers, taking into consideration the condition of your items and how long the clearance will take, and schedule a time slot.
3. Our professional team will arrive during your confirmed time slot, clear the specified items carefully and efficiently, and ensure the garage is left clean and tidy.
4. Items suitable for reuse are sold in our stores, supporting our commitment to sustainability. We will handle the recycling and disposal of items where necessary.
Do you charge for garage clearances?
Yes, this will depend on how much you need clearing. We will provide you an estimate based on the information you have provided. If your quote is over £1000, we will need to carry out a preliminary property visit. Labour and waste charges may also be added to your quote if the recycling/disposing of items is required, however this will be discussed with you and agreed prior to carrying out the clearance.
If you have a smaller number of items in your garage and wish to donate them to Garden House Hospice Care, we can also arrange collection of these. Our furniture collection service is free for up to five items and £50 (including VAT) for up to ten items.
Is there a minimum size of garage clearance?
No, there is no minimal size of garage, but fewer than 10 items will be treated as a furniture collection. These are free for up to five items and £50 (including VAT) for up to 10, rather than charged on a per item basis.
Do you take white goods?
Yes, we can collect white goods such as refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens. If suitable, these items may be sold in our stores, contributing to waste reduction and sustainability.
Are there any items you can't/won't accept?
We are incredibly grateful for the donations we receive through garage clearances, however there are some things that we cannot sell for safety or legal reasons:
- Oil / chemicals / medical waste / paint
- Explosives / ammunition / weapons
- Petrol / fuel / petrol machinery
- Asbestos
- Drugs of any kind (medication etc.)
- Building materials
- Gas / compressed bottles
- Any unknown substances
If you are in any doubt, please call us on 01462 678076 (option 1) or request a call back.
Some of my items are damaged - can you still take them?
Yes - however any items not in a 'usable' condition will likely result in an additional waste charge. This is to cover the costs incurred by us for recycling/disposing of them.
Where possible, please let us know of any damage at the time of enquiry so we can provide an accurate quote and time slot when scheduling. Our drivers reserve the right to refuse any unusable items we haven't been informed about.
What happens if I estimate the wrong amount to be cleared?
We understand that estimating waste volumes can be challenging for a garage clearance or may change at short notice. If what we clear on the day differs from your initial enquiry, our team will assess the situation on-site to determine whether any additional items can be collected (i.e. due to van capacity or schedule).
We aim to offer flexible solutions to accommodate your needs, so please get in touch in advance where possible. You can reach us on 01462 678076 (option 1) to amend your booking or alternatively, please email thedepot@ghhospicecare.org.uk.
Do I need to be present for a garage clearance?
While it's preferable for you to be present during the garage clearance to ensure all items are accurately removed, we understand this may not be possible and can arrange them without your presence under certain circumstances. Please discuss this with our team in advance to make the necessary arrangements.
Where is my clearance?
Our drivers will always strive to be with you within your scheduled time slot, but sometimes things are out of our control, such as traffic or a delay at a previous job. They will always try to give you a call if they are running late, and will do their best to make up time on their way to you minimise delays (while of course remaining safe!).
If you require any further assistance, please call us on 01462 678076 (option 1).
Do you recycle?
Yes, we are committed to environmentally responsible waste management. We recycle a significant portion of the waste we collect, ensuring materials are processed appropriately to minimise environmental impact. Additionally, many items suitable for reuse are sold or refurbished to sell in our shops, promoting sustainability and giving products a second life.
Are you a licensed waste carrier?
Yes, we are a fully licensed waste carrier, authorised to handle and dispose of waste in compliance with all relevant regulations. This ensures that your waste is managed legally and responsibly.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured, providing coverage for all aspects of our waste removal services. This ensures peace of mind for our clients, knowing that they are protected against any unforeseen incidents.
