Furniture collections
Donate furniture items to Garden House Hospice Care and help us care for more people in North Hertfordshire affected by life-limiting illnesses.
We will always welcome high-quality furniture donations, including sofas, dining room tables and chairs, beds with clean mattresses, armchairs, wardrobes, chest of drawers and sideboards. We know that it's not always that easy to bring them to us, so let our furniture collection service remove the hassle for you.
We collect donated furniture from the Garden House Hospice Care catchment area, which includes Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Royston, Biggleswade and all the villages in between. If you live outside this area, please still get in touch and we'll be happy to come to an agreement with you.
How it works
1. Fill out our collection form, detailing the information we need about your property and the items you wish to donate. You will also select a preferred date and time for collection.
2. We will review your answers, taking into consideration the condition of your items and how long the collection will take, and schedule a time slot.
3. Our professional team will arrive during your confirmed time slot, collect the specified items carefully and efficiently, and ensure the property is left clean and tidy.
4. Items suitable for reuse are sold in our stores, supporting our commitment to sustainability. We will handle the recycling and disposal of items where necessary.
Do you charge for furniture collections?
The amount charged depends on how many items we are collecting. Our current prices are:
- Up to five items: Free
- Up to 10 items: £50 (including VAT)
Is there a maximum size of furniture collection?
Yes, any furniture collections of more than 10 items will be treated as a house clearance with your quote calculated per item.
Do you take white goods?
Yes, we can collect white goods such as refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens. If suitable, these items may be sold in our stores, contributing to waste reduction and sustainability.
Some of my items are damaged - can you still take them?
Yes - however any items not in a 'usable' condition will likely result in an additional waste charge. This is to cover the costs incurred by us for recycling/disposing of them.
Where possible, please let us know of any damage at the time of enquiry so we can provide an accurate quote and time slot when scheduling. Our drivers reserve the right to refuse any unusable items we haven't been informed about.
What happens if I estimate the wrong amount to be collected?
We understand that the items you wish to donate may change at short notice. If what we collect on the day differs from your initial enquiry, our team will assess the situation on-site to determine whether any additional items can be collected (i.e. due to van capacity or schedule).
We aim to offer flexible solutions to accommodate your needs, so please get in touch in advance where possible. You can reach us on 01462 678076 (option 1) to amend your booking or alternatively, please email thedepot@ghhospicecare.org.uk.
Do you offer same day collection?
Yes, we strive to offer a same-day service whenever possible. Availability may depend on your location and the time of your request, so we recommend contacting us as early as possible to arrange prompt service.
Do I need to be present for a furniture collection?
While it's preferable for you to be present during the furniture collection to ensure all items are accurately removed, we can arrange them without your presence under certain circumstances. Please discuss this with our team in advance to make the necessary arrangements.
Where is my collection?
Our drivers will always strive to be with you within your scheduled time slot, but sometimes things are out of our control, such as traffic or a delay at a previous collection. They will always try to give you a call if they are running late, and will do their best to make up time on their way to you minimise delays (while of course remaining safe!).
If you require any further assistance, please call us on 01462 678076 (option 1).
