People with dementia are amongst those eligible, but more likely, to miss out on care provided by Garden House. Help us change that.
Our commitment since January 2024 has been to improve access to our services, with the launch of our pioneering frailty service. It’s working. Demand has surged, and we are treating a wider range of illnesses than ever before.
But people are still missing out, and there is more we have to do. Please support our summer appeal today so we can reach more people who need our care.
This includes people with dementia, such as Jules’ mum, June. The pair had help from our Admiral Nurse, Lucy, who supports people with dementia and their families, linking them in with the services that can best support them.
“My beloved mum died on Valentines Day. She had lived with Lewy Body dementia for five years. She had wanted to die at home, but she was in a care home and I had no idea what to do. Lucy was wonderful. She co-ordinated the process of getting mum home and secured the help of the Hospice’s Community Services team. They were like angels, treating mum with such dignity and providing much needed support to me too. None of this would have been possible without Lucy.”
In the last year, requests for Lucy’s support have risen by 16% and demand for care from the nurses and health care assistants in our community team have risen by 71%.
This is because our efforts to reach people who typically missed out within our communities are working. But we have more to do - we estimate as many as 5000 people who are eligible to use our expert services, including those with dementia, still miss out.
Please donate to our summer appeal so that together we can do more, for more people.
How your donation could help

£22 would fund an hour of care on the Inpatient Unit for someone with frailty who has been transferred following a stay in hospital

£34 may cover an hour of Lucy’s work, supporting people with dementia at the end of their lives

£50 could fund a seated exercise session at our Wellbeing Hub, which is an important way for us to meet people who may benefit from our other services

How we are trying to reach more people
- Our new 10-year strategy will give you an idea of what we are trying to do, and how
- Our frailty nurses continue to link in with our local hospital on a daily basis, identifying people who meet our criteria and bringing them into our care
- Colleagues like Lucy are supporting people with dementia in care homes and connecting them with the hospice services they need
- We are innovating and plan to launch a number of new initiatives this year, with your support. Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to learn more.
Our plan is working
Garden House is leading the way and innovating how we access and care for thousands of people currently missing out. We can only achieve our goals with you by our side.
