The power of giving: Skills, support and compassion in action
Our volunteers are a vital part of our Hospice community, giving their time, skills and energy to support our wider mission every day. Through their commitment, they help us continue supporting families when they need us most.
Des, Events volunteer
Des started volunteering with Garden House after his wife, Chris, received care from our Hospice at Home team. Describing the team as “angels walking through the front door,” Des wanted to give something back, so began volunteering and fundraising in support of our work. He has embraced every challenge, from challenging treks to event support, encouraging others along the way. A longstanding friend of the Hospice - thank you, Des.
Veronica, Fundraising & Depot volunteer
Veronica supports our Fundraising and Depot teams, using her computer and administration skills. After retiring, she wanted to give back to a cause close to her heart. She values the camaraderie, friendship and sense of achievement volunteering brings, helping ensure hospice care remains here for future families. We love having you as part of the team - thank you, Veronica.
Angie, Reception volunteer
After her husband Ian was cared for by the Hospice, Angie began volunteering on reception at weekends, helping nurses focus on patient care without interruption. With a nursing background, she values the interaction and purpose the role brings. Angie loves how welcoming, bright and positive the Hospice feels, supporting families through difficult times. Volunteering has become a meaningful part of her week - thank you, Angie.
Lyndsay, Inpatient Unit volunteer
Lyndsay volunteers on our Inpatient Unit, offering a warm welcome to patients and families. Whether sharing a smile and a chat or providing a much-needed hot drink, she knows the smallest gestures can make a real difference. She loves the sense of connection volunteering brings, believing you get just as much out of volunteering as you put in. Through her kindness, compassion and time, Lyndsay helps so many - thank you, Lyndsay.
