Dedicate a wildflower in our garden in memory of your loved one
This spring, the team here at Garden House Hospice Care in Letchworth are looking forward to an array of colour in our stunning garden, which is enhanced by the wildflowers that people dedicate each year in memory of their loved ones.
The Wildflowers offer an opportunity for people to remember and feel close to their loved ones, while finding comfort in nature. Flowers hold powerful meanings and have a special place in our lives. They are closely tied to remembrance and honouring those who are no longer with us, which is why the Hospice has carefully chosen flowers that hold a wide range of heartfelt meanings.
The dedicated flowers will grow in the meadow, the woodland walk and throughout the garden for everyone to enjoy. For each flower dedicated, your loved one’s name will be printed on a display for all to see at The Wildflower and Remembrance Afternoon and listed on a dedication page on our website. There is no limit to the number of flowers you dedicate, but there is a minimum donation of £5 per flower.

Kerry Cunnane, Legacy and In Memory Manager at Garden House, said:
“By dedicating a flower as part of the Wildflowers campaign, you will have the opportunity to remember a loved one in our stunning garden. Whether your loved one died at the Hospice, at home or in a hospital, you are more than welcome to take part in our beautiful in-memory event and honour your loved one whilst also raising funds for the Hospice.”
Cheryl, who dedicated a poppy in memory of her dad Martin, said:
“The Wildflower Afternoon was my first opportunity to attend one of the special in memory events organised by Garden House since my dad passed away at the Hospice.
“The gardens are the ones we used to walk around with dad until he became too poorly to walk them himself. Even in the darkest days, my family and I would wander them to find comfort and appreciate the nature and tranquillity that surrounds the Hospice.
“Returning in June allowed us to appreciate the gardens in bloom and full of colour.”

On Sunday 28th June at 2pm, we will also be holding our annual Wildflower and Remembrance Afternoon in our grounds. This will give attendees the opportunity to spend some time in our beautiful garden and have some time to reflect on their loved ones. Our Emotional and Psychological Support team will hold a short service with readings, poems and music, and refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome to come along and there will be some activities for children as well.
To help Garden House cover the cost of the event, we ask for £5 per adult attending. This will be added to your total automatically when you complete the online booking form.
If you would like to donate more than the minimum £5, here are some suggested amounts with examples of what your donation could fund:
- £30 could cover the travel costs of our Community team visiting people at home for a day
- £49 could fund a counselling session from our Emotional and Psychological Support team
- £75 could pay for an activity from our Rehab and Wellbeing team, such as a physiotherapy appointment or tai chi class.
