Christmas Treecycling scheme returning in January

At Garden House Hospice Care, we will be running our annual Christmas Treecycling service for the eighth consecutive year in January. A team of volunteers will collect and recycle real trees in exchange for a donation to the Hospice.

Trees will be collected from North Hertfordshire and surrounding towns and villages in postcodes SG1-9, SG15-18 and AL6. Bookings must be made by midday on Sunday 4th January, and collections will take place from 8am on Wednesday 7th to 5pm on Sunday 11th January 2026. Trees will then be shredded and used in local community projects.

The Hospice needs support from the community this year more than ever. With funding levels at crisis point, we need to raise as much as possible through fundraisers like this to ensure we can continue to support those in need of our care. We suggest one of the following donation amounts:

  • £12 could pay for clean bedding and towels for our current patients, for one day
  • £22 could fund an hour of care on our Inpatient Unit, for one patient
  • £35 could cover a return trip our in the minibus to a Rehab and Wellbeing activity
  • £50 could pay for one seated exercise session for ~33 people at a Wellbeing Hub
  • £102 could fund the travel costs for our Community team for one day.

Adam Brockett is Product & Events Development Lead at Garden House Hospice Care:

“Christmas Treecycling has always been very successful and we’re thrilled to be able to run the service again in 2026 - hopefully bigger and better. As well as helping to fund the Hospice’s vital services, supporters can also feel good knowing that they are disposing of their real Christmas trees in an eco-friendly way. It’s a win-win really!

“We’d like to say a special thank you to Settle and Standalone Farm for supporting the service again this year, as well as in advance to all the Christmas tree vendors and local businesses who will chip in by advertising it to their customers.”
