What will I learn?

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

• State the importance of person centred advance care planning
• To understand the use of ReSPECT in advance care planning
• Have increased confidence in discussing ACP with patients and their families
• To consider the factors which impact on nutrition at end of life
• To recognise change of appetite in palliative care
• To consider individualised care planning and it’s role in nutrition management
• Ensure an understanding of the importance of oral health at end of life
• Understand the factors that can impact on oral health at end of life
• Identify when a patient is deteriorating and what this might look like
• Be aware of the barriers in relation to recognising dying
• Have an awareness of national guidance in palliative care
• To understand why we have an Advice Line
• How to manage a request for an admission out of hours
• Palliative/oncological care emergencies:
  • Superior Vena Cava Obstruction (SVCO)
  • Spinal cord compression
  • Hypercalcaemia
  • Neutropenic sepsis
  • Terminal haemorrhage
  • Seizures
