Hospice Fundraising Goes International

Priscilla Harper lives in Tenerife and recently held a coffee morning in aid of the Hospice in memory of her husband, Peter.

We had the pleasure of hearing all about Priscilla’s story and are delighted to share this with you.

“Although Tenerife is a holiday island there are quite a few of us who live here all the year round and at this time of year when all the Cancer Charities in the UK are girding themselves up to do their bit, we thought we should do the same, small though we are!!

It seems this year in particular we have lost too many friends and family to the dreaded disease and it got me remembering the wonderful help I had when my husband Peter Harper, well known in the Stevenage, Letchworth area, died from Pancreatic Cancer.

The Macmillan Nurses and the Marie Curie girls were just the best and we were lucky enough to have Hospice at Home, round the clock for the final days of my husband’s illness. I have never forgotten it, even though it is now 12 years ago.

So we ladies were sitting round chatting about the coffee mornings advertised on the TV and we thought, right, we will do our own and so that is what happened and we raised nearly £2,000! We had cakes and buns, coffee and tea and a raffle all organised within about four weeks, everyone has been so generous. It was great fun and we are already talking about doing it again next year!!”
