2 Weeks Until our Team of Trekkers Take on the Jungle

Our team of 11 intrepid trekkers take on the rainforests of Borneo in under 2 weeks, facing their fears in what’s going to be a challenge of a lifetime.

Anna Davies, Borneo trekker, is taking part in the expedition in memory of her sister Debbie.

“My beautiful sister Debbie was diagnosed with terminal cancer in Oct 2016. She fought brave and hard until Feb of this year when things started to get a lot worse, Debbie was very weak and had accepted that it was time to prepare for the inevitable. Her wishes were to pass away at the Hospice.

At first, the thought of her going into the Hospice was awful, it felt like the end. As a family we didn’t know what to expect, it felt overwhelming, we were scared but we could not have been more wrong.

From the minute we arrived her smile came back, she felt safe, secure and very pampered, nothing was too much trouble.

The nurses, volunteers, receptionists and everyone who is involved somehow seems to be special, as a family we were listened to by the doctors and nurses, our concerns and questions answered. The family support team are always on hand to talk and listen and just be simply there and at times like ours were just invaluable.

While I was wandering the corridors, in my pjs, at 2am I saw the poster for Borneo. It was then that I realised I had a chance to give something back, the next day I asked my sister how she felt, she said “you’re nuts but I’ll be with you, you can do it”. Never in my life had I been on Facebook but with the help and support from family and the Hospice I reached my target and more just by setting up a JustGiving page. I am blown away by the support I have received. The Hospice has touched so many people and I feel very strongly about how important it is to do what we can and support to keep it going.

My sister passed early March, she was not just my sister she was my very best friend, I am lost without her. By having the continued support from the Hospice, my crazy wonderful Borneo team and my family, I feel at last I have something to focus on. I am sure Borneo won’t be the last trek I do...I am doing it for you Deb.

The Hospice made the hardest time of my life just that little bit more bearable, I can’t imagine what we would have done without them. "

There’s still time to support Anna ahead of her trek to the jungle. Every penny makes a difference to vital patient care in your local community

Keep your eyes peeled for updates from our team as they take on the Jungle…
