Sheena and Joseph tie the knot on our Inpatient Unit
On Friday 27th March 2026, we had the privilege of hosting the wedding of Sheena and Joseph in our Inpatient Unit, after 18 years together.
Sheena has been receiving palliative care with us over the past two weeks following a lung cancer diagnosis late last year. She shared:
“The Hospice have been amazing from the moment I arrived... The difference they’ve made to me, and my loved ones has been massive. They’ve given me the strength, and the opportunity to get married today.”

Sheena and Joseph got married at the Hospice on Friday 27th March
Their story began 18 years ago, meeting on a bus on the way to a night out in London. This morning, Joseph called the registry office after years of discussing marriage, and by 3pm, they were married surrounded by family and friends.
“We’ve been left speechless by the kindness shown,” Joseph said. “In just a few hours, so many people came together to make it happen.”

Sheena's bridal bouquet was lovingly picked by Head Gardener Wendy
From bridal flowers and buttonholes picked from the Hospice garden, to cake, champagne, and the support of local community members - including local make-up artist Lorena and hairdresser Steph, it was a true team effort.
“I’ve never had my hair or makeup done for anything special. I feel really beautiful,” Sheena added.

The local community rallied together to make Sheena feel beautiful on her special day
At Garden House Hospice Care, this is what our care is about - supporting people to live well, make their own choices, and create meaningful moments, with the right care around them.
