Internal clinical training extended to external healthcare providers
Garden House Hospice Care is delighted to announce we are expanding our provision to support health and social care careers. Earlier this year, we extended our internal training to any external delegates who provide end of life and palliative care.
At Garden House, we pride ourselves on being an ‘education provider of choice’, with each course designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills our teams need to provide a high standard of palliative and end of life care.
Alison Hailes, Learning and Development Clinical Specialist, is leading the training:
“I’m a ‘general specialist’ so attendees can expect all sorts of topics - from Palliative Care Study Days and Medicines Management, to Observations and Glucometer training and Infection Control. I also deliver training on topics like Safeguarding and Mental Capacity, Cultural, Religious and Spiritual Beliefs at End of Life, and long term conditions including respiratory, heart and Motor Neurone Disease (MND). But my favourite topic to teach is Essential Communication Skills as it’s the heart of everything we do.”

Alison is a Registered Nurse and has also completed a Specialist District Nursing Postgraduate Diploma. Her further accolades include a Mentorship and Preceptorship qualification, Independent Nurse Prescribing qualification, Minor Illness and Professional Nurse Advocate training.
“One of my proudest moments was receiving my Queens Nurse Award during COVID for my work promoting learning, leadership and quality in patient care. My passion now is to continue using my experience and the knowledge I’ve gained to manage and inspire others working in health and social care to achieve great results.”

Here is some feedback from courses Alison has delivered for the University of Hertfordshire:
“One student told me she feels more confident in end of life care delivery, and three others said they are now considering end of life care as their future career path.”
“We received amazing feedback from the HCA day. The students said that you were so informative and that they have not found an education day as interesting as that in a long time.”
