Here for every moment: Our year in review (2025/6)

We are delighted to share this annual review with you, celebrating the work of Garden House Hospice Care and the people behind it. At the end of last year, we faced one of the most challenging periods in our history, navigating significant uncertainty and asking our community to stand with us to help secure the future of our services.

With the arrival of spring came a renewed feeling of optimism for our beloved Hospice. We were able to share a stronger sense of purpose, a deepened commitment to our ten-year strategy, and the impact we intend to continue making in our community.

Although the past year brought considerable challenges, one thing never changed: we kept our doors open and remained here for patients and families when they needed us most.

Every day, our teams provided compassionate care, comfort, and steadfast support through some of life’s hardest moments. Our Inpatient Unit continued to deliver expert care, while our Rehab and Wellbeing team helped people regain confidence, adapt to changing circumstances, rebuild strength, and rediscover independence. Through our Emotional and Psychological Support Service, patients and families found space to grieve, be listened to, and feel truly heard.

We also continued to reach people across our community through our Hospice at Home and In Reach Services and Enhanced Nursing and Care Home teams, ensuring support was available wherever it was needed most.

Most importantly, after more than 30 years, we are still here caring for local people thanks to the incredible response to our Crisis Appeal and your continued generosity, dedication, and belief in our mission. Because of you, we have been able to support families through every moment that matters.

These numbers represent far more than statistics. They reflect thousands of moments of care, reassurance, dignity, compassion, and human connection. Our services have never been more needed.

Thank you to every one of you who has supported us over many years, and especially this year, whether by volunteering your time, attending or running events, sponsoring initiatives, donating, shopping with us, fundraising, or simply helping to spread the word about our work. We truly could not do this without you.

Looking ahead, we will continue to fight for sustainable hospice funding. This year, it will cost £6.5 million to provide our services free of charge. While we are in a more secure financial position following the difficult cuts that were made at the start of the year, we still greatly rely on the support of our community to fund our vital work. We must raise £2.7 million this year alone, but we know that, with your continued support, we can meet this challenge. Together, we will keep building a future filled with hope and compassion.

Our Hospice remains a welcoming and positive place, filled with warmth, humanity, and love. We hope you enjoy reading some of the stories featured in this report. One highlight is the wedding of Sheena and Joseph, a beautiful reminder that while none of us truly knows what tomorrow may bring, we can be certain that at Garden House, tomorrow will always be filled with love and peace, and that we will continue to be here for patients and families through every moment.
