Inpatient Unit Volunteer
Our Inpatient Unit Volunteers play a vital role in supporting our nursing team to provide high-quality care and create a warm, welcoming environment for patients and their loved ones. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people during an important time in their lives.

- Inpatient Unit Non-Clinical Volunteer
- Inpatient Unit Reception Volunteer

How you can help
Clinical Volunteer
Shifts: approximately 9am-1pm or 1pm-4pm either weekday or weekend
- Support the nursing team in providing high standards of patient care
- Welcome and support new patients on admission
- Prepare rooms and beds for new admissions
- Help prepare patients for mealtimes and assist with feeding if required
- Help patients pack and prepare for discharge or transfer
- Participate in handover meetings
- Ad-hoc tasks assisting patients as required
- Previous experience of direct patient care or a nursing background is essential.
Non-Clinical Volunteer
Shifts: approximately 9am-1pm or 1pm-4pm either weekday or weekend
- Arrange and dispose of flowers
- Help patients, carers and visitors feel relaxed and welcome
- Fill water jugs and distribute menus and meal trays
- Welcome new patients to the unit
- Prepare and serve beverages for patients and visitors
- Spent time with patients and family members, offering companionship and support
- Support the kitchen with ad-hoc tasks as required.
Reception Volunteer
Shifts: approximately 4pm-7pm either weekday or weekend
- Welcome visitors and escort them from reception
- Answer telephone calls and relay messages accurately
- Assist with administrative tasks, including preparing discharge documentation packs
- Help create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for patients, carers and visitors
- No specific experience is necessary. We are looking for someone with a friendly, approachable manner and good communication skills.

Training and support
- To help you feel confident and supported in your role, we provide mandatory training, including both online and face-to-face sessions
- You will be required to complete a DBS check, which will be arranged by the Hospice
- You will receive free access to our Volunteer Assistance Programme, which offers confidential support and advice
- You will be supported by our staff members and fellow volunteers, who will be available to provide ongoing guidance.
