'Harry the Bear' Hospice Mascot
We are seeking a bank of volunteers to step into the paws of our beloved mascot, Harry the Bear, on an ad hoc basis. If you love bringing joy to others and have a passion for supporting your community, this could be the perfect role for you!
How you can help
- Support our Hawthorne Schools Project, handing out goody bags and certificates to participating children
- As Harry the Bear you may visit local schools in North Hertfordshire and surrounding areas to attend assemblies and events
- Occasionally appear at Hospice events to help launch campaigns and engage with the public
- Wave, smile and maybe do the occasional wiggle to delight students and staff!
- Our mascot volunteer must be physically fit and able to cope with the enclosed space inside the costume
- You will wear the costume for no longer than 15 minutes at a time
- Commit to Garden House Hospice Care’s mission and values.

Training and support
- You will be given advice and guidance on the role of a mascot, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident
- Supportive staff and volunteers will be alongside you at every event to ensure everything runs smoothly
- You will be entitled to receive free access to our Volunteer Assistance Programme, which offers confidential support and advice.
