We invite you to a unique opportunity to view and purchase the works of local artist
Mary James at our Open Garden on 9th July. The gallery, featuring original works
of the late artist, will display a mixture of water colours, acrylics, wax and inks, pencils, pastels and oils. There is a wide and varied range of subjects including still
life, portraits, landscapes, animals and abstracts. The artwork has been kindly donated by Mary’s family to remember her talents as an artist. The work is for both public display and for sale so we thank them for this opportunity. Mary James was a local artist who lived in Royston and taught art at the Kings College School, Cambridge. She trained at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and has exhibited in Ashwell, Cambridge and other local venues. She also ran a local drawing group for other artists. Mary left over 300 works of art that have been donated to the Hospice. Mary spent her last days in peace at the Hospice seven years ago. Mary’s two children, Tim Parlett and Liz Stocks said “It is a pleasure to find such a great home and good cause for our mother’s large body of work. She would be delighted to know that her work might give others pleasure and help raise money for others to end their life with dignity and in peace”. The wonderful garden at the Hospice is a valuable asset to patients, carers, families and the staff. The vibrant colours and scents from the
flowerbeds, the green lawns and woodland path are a delight for the senses, offering a calming place to spend time whilst at the Hospice, providing a peaceful view from an inpatient’s window.
