Secretary to the Board of Trustees
We are looking for an organised and efficient professional to join our team as a Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
Working closely with the CEO, Chair of the Board and other associated committees, you will be responsible for the efficient running of meetings, in addition to monitoring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
You will have experience providing high quality administrative support to a board, committee or senior leadership team with strong written communication and minute taking skills.
What does the Secretary to the Board of Trustees role involve?
The main duties and responsibilities include:
- Organise Board of Trustee and Trading Company meetings
- Formulate meeting agendas
- Collect, organise and distribute information, documents or other papers for meetings
- Take minutes in meetings and ensure certified copies of the minutes are filed
- Prepare Trustees and Directors for any members’ questions and help create briefing materials
- Support the Company Secretary in developing procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Support the Company Secretary to ensure formal documentation is filed with the appropriate bodies

This is a part time role for 22.5 hours a week.
What skills does the Secretary to the Board of Trustees role need?
- Experience providing high quality administrative support to a board, committee or senior leadership team
- Experience in planning meetings, including agenda management, minute taking and action tracking
- Understanding of the principles of effective governance and the role of trustees
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft accurate correspondence and board papers
- Excellent minute taking skills with the ability to capture clear decisions and actions
- Attention to detail and ability to produce consistently accurate work
Who are we and what do we do?
We are Garden House Hospice Care, the Hospice for North Hertfordshire. We are a multi award-winning hospice that puts the patient at the heart of everything we do. Patients on our inpatient unit are looked after by our specialist team 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We provide support and care to patients with a wide range of symptoms associated with a life-limiting illness, as well as their families. We support our patients by providing symptom control, psychological support and end of life care. Our high nurse-to-patient ratio ensures that patients are able to get the dedicated support that they might need.
