Plans are underway for Garden House Hospice Care's annual 'festival of remembrance' at the end of November. Everyone is invited to dedicate a light in memory of a loved one for a minimum donation of £10 per light to help fund our services during the festive season.

Lights of Life is a week-long event held at our Hospice in Letchworth. This years' service will take place on Sunday 29th November from 5pm and be hosted by our Inpatient Unit Manager, Rebecca Windle. There will also be readings from staff and family members, and performances from singer-songwriter Roxy Searle and a local choir.

Our garden will also be open for more intimate visits from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th December. These are available in 15-minute slots between 5pm and 7pm. Both the service and garden visits are free to attend but must be pre-booked.

Garden House Hospice Care has an overall fundraising target of £2.7 million this year. Lights of Life is expected to bring in approximately £40,000 toward this total. Lights can be dedicated for a minimum donation of £10 each in four areas in our garden: the woodland walk, the Christmas tree, the orchard and the sundial circle. The names of the people the lights are dedicated to will be printed on display boards in each area for the duration of Lights of Life. They will also be listed on a special dedication page on our website.

Carla Pilsworth is Director of Income Generation at Garden House:

“Lights of Life is such a special and important event in our calendar. It brings our community together at what can be a particularly difficult time of year, especially if it's their first Christmas without their loved one.

“It's also vital that we continue to raise the funds we need to keep our services running. Although we are no longer in the same financial crisis as this time last year, we still greatly rely on the support of charitable donations. Less than half of our funding comes from the Government, so every penny raised through campaigns and events like Lights of Life means we can continue to support people living with advancing illnesses, their families and carers.”

To dedicate a light, make a donation and book to attend Lights of Life, visit the links below or call us on 01462 679540. Please note that dedications must be made by Thursday 19th November in order to be printed on the display boards.
