Changes to our Board of Trustees: Thank you & farewell to Steve Mellish
We extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Steve Mellish, who is stepping down as Chairman after an incredible nine years of service. Steve joined the Board as a Trustee in 2016 and was elected Chairman in June 2021 - leading with wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.
Steve has also been an inspiring ambassador for the Hospice - taking part in countless fundraising events and raising thousands to support our care. His energy, generosity, and leadership will be greatly missed and we thank him for his outstanding contribution.

“While I will miss being a trustee and chairman, what I’ll truly miss are the people. I’ve made lasting friendships and deeply admire everyone’s dedication to supporting patients and families. I’ll miss visiting the Hospice, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Having seen the excellent patient care firsthand, I was able to reassure my sister Ann, who sadly passed away last year at St Christopher’s, that she was going to a place that felt like a hotel run by angels. That comforting image will stay with me.”
As we bid farewell to Steve, we warmly welcome Richard Dearden as our new Chairman:
“Garden House is a much-loved institution, providing care, compassion, and hope to patients and their loved ones. I am proud to be part of such a special organisation, and it is a privilege to be asked to Chair it. Together with my fellow Trustees and our excellent Vice-Chair, Pauline, I am committed to helping our charity thrive.”
