Inpatient Unit Receptionist/ Ward Clerk

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an organised and reliable individual to join our Inpatient Unit as a Receptionist/ Ward Clerk.

 

You will act as the welcoming face of the unit and be the first point of contact for patients, visitors and telephone enquiries. You will be friendly, approachable and able to communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner.  


Who are we and what do we do?

We are Garden House Hospice Care, the Hospice for North Hertfordshire. We are a multi award-winning hospice that puts the patient at the heart of everything we do. Patients on our inpatient unit are looked after by our specialist team 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We provide support and care to patients with a wide range of symptoms associated with a life-limiting illness, as well as their families. We support our patients by providing symptom control, psychological support and end of life care. Our high nurse-to-patient ratio ensures that patients are able to get the dedicated support that they might need.


What does the Inpatient Unit Receptionist/ Ward Clerk role involve?

The main duties and responsibilities include:


  • Provide a front of house reception service for patients or relatives arriving on the ward/unit, welcoming all visitors and directing as appropriate.
  • Deal with both internal and external telephone enquiries
  • Input information onto the electronic patient information system
  • Arrange patient transport
  • Provide a confidential and high standard of administrative support to the ward/ unit
  • Assist the Ward Manager/Team Lead in covering unfilled shifts and find cover for shifts in the event of staff sickness. 


This is a part time role for 32.5 hours a week.

What skills does the IPU Receptionist/ Ward Clerk role need?

  • Experience and understanding of working in a clinical environment and using an electronic patient record system.
  • Administration/ receptionist experience
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Able to work independently, flexibly and on own initiative, within specified guidelines or processes
  • Ability to communicate with distressed patients/relatives in a sensitive manner
  • Excellent telephone manner, with ability to deal with telephone enquiries from patients, relatives and multiple external agencies.
  • Able to work appropriately with confidential and sensitive information
