Letchworth shines again for hospice Starlight Walk

#
StarlightWalk

We would like to congratulate everyone involved with the hospice’s eight annual Starlight Walk on Saturday 10 September 2016

The support received from the community for this event is phenomenal.  Over 300 glowing neon walkers participated on the night, and are on their way to helping to reach a target of £50,000. Thank you to everyone who walked for us.

Cathy White, Events Manager comments:

“Starlight is such a special event, it’s not just a ‘walk’ it also gives participants time to reflect. We like to give a minute’s silence at the start of the walk, to remember those who have passed. We would like to ask our fabulous walkers and sponsors to help us reach our target”.

However, it is more than just the walkers that contribute to the success of this event.  A huge thank you to the hospice staff, volunteers, and marshals who looked after the walkers at the leisure centre and ensure to their safety en-route.

In addition, the hospice would like thank Letchworth Leisure Centre part of North Herts Leisure, LV, Sainsbury’s, Chilli Lounge, Lessiters Ltd and all other local business involved who gave up their time and equipment to help produce this event.

If you would like to get involved in next year’s event please email Cathy at cathy.white@ghhospicecare.org.uk or phone the fundraising team on 01462 679540

First time Starlight walker Rosie Burlingham shares:
“My daughter Laura and I were walking in memory of my Father-in-law who was looked after so well at the Garden House Hospice almost 21 years ago, and also a close friend who sadly passed away 21 months ago.

This was my first Starlight walk-  You couldn't really get lost following a glowing, flashing snake of walkers around the streets of Letchworth - encouraged at every turn by the fantastic marshals.

It really was great fun and the general public really got behind us too, calling out and honking their car horns in support. The tea and refreshments at the end you could say were, "the icing on the cake!"
A fantastic, well organised event”.
